Years long pending tunnel project underneath Suez Canal to link East Port Said with Cairo & Delta seems revived. Local media has quoted Dr. Essam Sharaf, Egypt Minister of Transport, indicating that relevant feasibility and cost studies are being prepared on the project at the Ministry. The official has stressed the project would best integrate with East Port Said Port, Al Salam Bridge across the Suez Canal and the railway line to be soon extended between Al Ferdan/ Beer El Abd/ Rafah. The first 100-Km long section between Al Ferdan and Beer El Abd is already completed, while the second 80-Km long section, reaching Rafah is under execution. Project would enhance East Port Said Port to acquire a reasonable share of the trade volume between Europe, Africa & Middle East. |
