According to Dr. Eng. Mustafa Sabri, Advisor to the Minister of State for Environment, 2.4 billion M3 of treated waste water available at present to plant wooden trees & forests & the figure would increase by 2017 to 5.4 billion M3. While addressing a delegation-grouping members of the Environment Committee at EBA - Egyptian Businessmen Association, Dr. Sabri revealed that there are now 24 forests exist in Egypt each of 11,000 feddans land. He further revealed the country need of 11 million trees to absorb toxic CO2 emitted by almost 1.5 million vehicles [running on Cairo streets]. He added negotiations are now going with China to assist in the planting of trees at a 500 feddans planned forest extension in Sadat City. Also phase one of the green belt project around Greater Cairo is scheduled for completion in six months time to add up to half a million trees. |
