An agreement was signed recently in Cairo with the AFESD – Arab Fund for Economic & Social Development on $ 33 million soft loan to back a national development project to revamp the Nile navigational path between Cairo and Alexandria. Project is part of a strategy of the Ministry of Transport to enhance river transport & increase its share in the Country total cargo transport volume from 0.5 % to 5 %. Scheme provides for the construction of two new river ports in North and South Cairo, also the conversion of the existing Athar Al Nabi Port into a tourist location. |
