Cairo based Regional Office for Energy Trade between East Nile Basin Countries has received seven international offers submitted by consulting houses to prepare the feasibility studies of a project involving electric interlinks between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia to have a unified power grid, which could be later on linked to other existing Pan Arab Eastern and Western Networks. According to Dr. Eng. Hassan Younis, Minister of Electricity & Energy, the project will be executed over two stages, the first between Ethiopia and Sudan and the second between Sudan and Egypt. He stressed the project would enable exploiting huge hydroelectric power generation potential of the Inga river in Congo to be transmitted to neighboring countries and also to Europe. |
