According to Egypt Minister of Foreign Trade & Industry, Egypt & the US are in agreement to extend the areas, governorates & industrial zones to be eligible to join the QIZ Protocol signed earlier in December 14, 2004. Development provides for Central Delta Governorates to join the Protocol including Gharbiya, Dakahliya, Menoufiya & Damietta, also for extending eligible zones to other new cities & complexes within Greater Cairo & Suez Canal Zones. The Minister predicted the Protocol extension would pave the way for almost 4,500 industrial companies & establishments to join involved with a wide variety of industries including chemical, engineering, food, furniture, leather, textile & garments. The Minister has further revealed that exports of textile & garments to the US during the first half of 2005 has increased by 5 % to reach $ 61.6 million, yet those exports increased during the Quarter July/ September 2005 to $ 116 million marking almost 90 % growth above the same period of 2004. |
