A protocol of understanding was recently signed between both N.B.E. – National Bank of Egypt & Banque Misr with NAT – National Authority for Tunnels to raise on a 50/ 50 bases L.E. 608 million & Euro 318 million to part finance phase 1 & 2 of the Cairo Metro third line scheme. Of the said figures L.E. 608 million & Euro 224 million are projected for phase 1 of the scheme with the remaining Euro 94 million for phase 2. The loan is for repayment over 20 years including 4 years grace & bears a yearly interest of 1 % above the interest rate announced by the Central Bank. This is the first time that national banks are involved with financing giant schemes & projects. |
