Months earlier revived [$ 6 billion +] scheme to develop a national project, proposed [since more than a decade] by world reputed Prof. Dr. Farouk Al Baz, seems to have been now put by Prime Minister Dr. Nazif on the right track. Scheme involves the development of a so-called 8 lanes construction corridor extending from El Alamein on the Mediterranean in the north till Toshki & the Sudanese boarders in the south equipped with a potable water pipeline, a railway line and an overhead power transmission line, also linked with the old valley via 12 horizontal highways to urban centers in the Delta & Upper Egypt. Media reports have indicated that Dr. Nazif has directed both the Minister of Housing & that of Planning to prepare in a month time an initial concept to be offered to international reputed consultants to evaluate as a strategic long term project which could help reclaim & develop almost 1.5 million feddans and terminate violations continuing on agricultural lands in the Delta & Upper Egypt. |
