$ 500 million project was announced regarding a (new) containers handling terminal at Damietta Port backed by a Kuwaiti Investment Group (KG1). Project was reviewed recently by Egypt Minister of Transport & representatives of other concerned ministries and agencies, together with representatives of the Kuwaiti Group. Project provides for the construction of a 1,200 meters long, 17 meters deep dock. Of the said investments, some $ 260 million would be allocated to the project infrastructure and equipment. Scheme is scheduled for completion in 30 months with partial operation to start in 18 months. Upon completion the project would have an annual design capacity to handle up to 4.1 million containers. Worth indicating is that the project is projected to go under B.O.T. for a 40 years duration. |
