ENTRO – Eastern Nile Technical Regional Office has requested expression of interest to extend consultancy services for an ENTRO project identified as Eastern Nile Watershed Management Project – Egypt – Sudan transboundry. ENTRO said it has received funding for the project from the World Bank. The objective of the consultancy is to design a set of studies to determine the impacts, positive & negative, of the Integrated Watershed Management Project in Egypt and Sudan on lake Nasser/ Nubia in relation to sedimentation/ lake management issues. The consultancy work will design studies by: A. Analyzing the status and evolution trends of the available data on sedimentation processes in Lake Nasser/ Nubia, both in terms of flood carried sediments and wind blown sand; the status of knowledge on corresponding effects on water quality & water resources availability will also be assessed: B. Designing a monitoring system to assess direct and indirect impacts of future upstream watershed management projects on sedimentation in Lake Nasser/ Nubia; and C. Outlining a project brief to formulate a lake Nasser/ Nubia Management Framework. The consultancy service requires the services of a consulting firm/ consortium, which will include an international team of experts and national consultants. The consultancy work will use a sequenced approach and will be carried out in close collaboration and interaction with the watershed management teams in Sudan & Egypt. The consultancy work is primarily to be carried out in Egypt and the duration of the study is approximately 10 – 12 months. ENTRO is now inviting consultants to indicate their interest in the project & provide information indicating they are qualified to perform the work. RFP – Request for Proposals is planned to be issued in Feb 2006. Selection will be made according to World Bank guidelines.
